What is a tincture?
Tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts made by soaking herbs in ingestible ethanol for an average of 4–6 weeks. This method allows for optimal extraction of a plant’s beneficial compounds, making the final product highly bioavailable and easy to absorb.
Why use ethanol in tinctures?
Ethanol is the most effective solvent for extracting a wide range of plant constituents, ensuring maximum potency and fast-acting results. It is also one of the best natural preservatives, allowing tinctures to maintain their efficacy for years. Despite its use in extraction, only a very small amount of ethanol is consumed per dose, making tinctures a safe and efficient way to deliver herbal medicine.
What type of ethanol do you use?
At Tinctures By Immanuel, we use 200-proof USDA Organic Food-Grade Ethanol to ensure the highest quality and purity. Unlike denatured alcohol, which contains additives, food-grade ethanol is pure and free of harmful substances.
The higher the proof, the more effective the extraction and we are committed to providing only the best.
How should I use tinctures for the best results?
We encourage an intuitive and balanced approach to herbal use—one that supports the body’s natural ability to heal without creating dependency on substances outside of ourselves. With this philosophy in mind, we recommend using our tinctures twice daily for no more than 7 consecutive days at a time, followed by a 2-day break. This rhythm allows for mutual participation within the body. For those sensitive to herbs, start with half the recommended amount and gradually increase if tolerated. If any discomfort or unwanted effects occur, discontinue use immediately.
How do I store tinctures?
They can be stored for up to 6 years if kept in a cool, dark, and dry place.
Who should avoid using tinctures?
Tinctures with ethanol are not recommended for children under the age of 18, those who are pregnant or nursing, or in individuals with liver issues (cirrhosis).
Why are tinctures good options?
Tinctures are fully bioavailable, meaning your body absorbs the herbal benefits quickly without needing full digestion.
Are tinctures convenient to use?
Yes! They’re easy to take on-the-go with minimal prep, making herbal support simple and portable.
How do tinctures compare to powdered herbs?
Tinctures preserve the potency of herbs far better than powders, which can degrade more quickly over time.
What ingredients are in your tinctures?
We use only simple, clean, organic ingredients.
